Joshua 24

With victory secured and the land allotted the people renew their covenant with God. After a reminder of God’s blessing and a stipulation of their responsibilities, the people respond with an unequivocal affirmation of their obedience. “We will obey,” they cry! And they do, at least until after Joshua’s death, and Joseph’s bones are buried in the same place where they reaffirmed their covenant with God.

Thought for the day: There are times in our own lives when it’s appropriate to rededicate ourselves to God. Perhaps before or after an important event. Perhaps in response to God’s blessing in our lives. Maybe even at the beginning of every day! But it’s certainly necessary whenever we have failed Him.

Luke 9:23 (personal translation) “And He said to all, ‘If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily, and follow me.’ “

1 John 1:9 (WEB) “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
