Joshua 23

Here Joshua gives his final address to the nation. Have you ever considered how rare a leader he is? Even Moses had an issue that kept him out of the promised land! Joshua was a faithful leader and a follower of God. He encourages the nation to keep the covenant and to keep from idolatry. And he reminds them of God’s faithfulness, but he does it in a way that provides a warning to them as well:

Joshua 23:14-16 (WEB) “You know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which Yahweh your God spoke concerning you. All have happened to you. Not one thing has failed of it. It shall happen that as all the good things have come on you of which Yahweh your God spoke to you, so Yahweh will bring on you all the evil things, until he has destroyed you from off this good land which Yahweh your God has given you, when you disobey the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them.”

Thought for the day: God is faithful with us too. He has promised good things, but He has promised “bad” as well. But is it really bad?

Hebrews 12:5-6 (WEB) “And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: ‘My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the Lord loves He chastens,
and scourges every son whom He receives.’ “
