1 John 4:1-5:4

We need to know the Word or we’ll get deceived. There are many false prophets out in the world, and they deny Jesus in some way or another. Some deny that He was actually here in the flesh. Some deny that He is actually the Christ (the Messiah). Some deny that He is God (here called the “Son of God“). While John was speaking to specific issues that were of concern in his day, we see the same in ours. In truth, Jesus was God incarnate (John 1:1-14). He came to be the Savior of the world (John 4:1-42). If we compare what false teachers say to what we’ve been taught, then we won’t be deceived. And we have an “ace in the whole” so to speak. We have the Spirit, so we overcome, because “the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

If we truly believe then we’ll love both God and other believers. God showed us how to love through Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross. Love is active. Love has purpose. Love is willing to sacrifice. We show we love God through our obedience, and we obey by loving others. If we truly love then we don’t have to worry about God’s judgment, because we show that we have the Spirit and know God. “Perfect love drives out fear!
