The Levites are scattered throughout the nation. Scattered or strategically placed? The placement of the Levites ensured that every tribe would have some who were specially acquainted with the Law and would be able to teach it. Monks were not allowed! Finally, they can rest. Sort of. Their own sinfulness and the people they left in the land will continue to be a problem.
Thought for the day: This passage should serve as an important reminder for both ministers and laity today. God requires us to be involved in the lives of others, as messy as that is, even while we are living for Him.
John 17:14-19 (WEB) “I have given them your word. The world hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that you would take them from the world, but that you would keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in your truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, even so I have sent them into the world. For their sakes I sanctify myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.”
