God tries to assuage the people’s fear (“Will we all perish?”) by assuring them that they are safe as long as the priests and Levites “perform the duty of the sanctuary and the duty of the altar.” In return, they receive a portion of the tithes and offerings. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t to give! The Levites are told that they too must give a “tithe of the tithe.”
Thought for the day: Giving is something that should be a blessing and a joy for all God’s people.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7 (WEB) “Remember this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
