The more excellent way is love. Gifts are only important while we are here on the earth. When the perfect comes (rapture? second coming? new heavens and new earth?), the partial will be set aside. It is childish to think that giftedness is more important than love (13:11). Faith, hope, and love are eternal, but the “greatest of these is love” (13:13).
How do we love?
- We are patient
- We are kind
- We are content
- We are modest
- We are humble
- We are kind
- We are caring
- We are calm
- We are helpful
- We are supportive
- We are honest
- We are faithful
That’s quite a list to live up to! No wonder Paul likens this kind of behavior to being an adult. And yet, what we know now, what we understand now, what we can do now, and how we behave now, will pale in comparison to when we see Jesus (13:12)!
1 John 3:2 “Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever it is revealed we will be like him because we will see him just as he is.“
