The whole passage focuses on the heart, but we need to remember that in Hebrew thought the heart reflects the inner person. That includes the intellect, emotions, and will.
- If your heart is right you’ll follow God’s commands, including “Honor Your father and your mother.”
- If your heart is right you’ll recognize human tradition for what it is, and make sure that God’s Word comes first.
- If your heart is right you’ll be more concerned about what comes out of it than what goes into your body.
- If your heart is right you won’t entertain evil thoughts and desires. Sin starts in the heart, and comes out in our actions.
How do we makes sure our hearts are right?
Psalm 119:11 “In my heart I store up your words, so I might not sin against you.”
