Numbers 26-30 (The Daily Walk Bible).
As Moses nears the end of his life, it shouldn’t surprise us that his thoughts revolve around who will continue to lead God’s people. The devotional does a nice job asking us to consider who we are preparing to continue the work. For parents and grandparents, the answer should be obvious! For the rest of us, its perhaps not so easy…
One other thing to note is what God, through Moses, focuses the nation on. Worship. Feasts, festivals, and sacrifices. The reminder of their sin, and that it needs to be taken care of. The reminder that they need to focus on their relationship with the God they serve.
While the final sacrifice for sin has been taken care of (Jesus Christ!), we would do well to have our focus on the God who provided that sacrifice for us. After all, Jesus said this: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.” (Matthew 22:37-38)
